Safe Bus Operation

DOT regulations govern the operation of both carriers that operate passenger buses, as well as carriers that operate school buses.

Passenger Buses

A passenger bus is a commercial motor vehicle defined as a passenger-carrying vehicle, regardless of design or seating capacity, used in a carrier's authorized operations. When the passenger bus carrier is engaged in transportation of the passengers for compensation, the carrier is referred to as a “for-hire motor carrier.” Passenger bus carriers which are classified as for-hire are subject to the entire body of the FMCSA regulations.
