Introduction to Metal Manufacturing Safety

Metal manufacturers smelt and/or refine ferrous and nonferrous metals from ore, pig, or scrap, using metallurgical and other processes. Establishments also manufacture metal alloys by introducing other chemical elements to pure metals.

Individuals employed in metal manufacturing are at risk of exposure to serious safety and health hazards on a daily basis, including chemical and toxic metal exposures that can cause respiratory and other health problems, noise and hearing loss, and heat-related illness.
