Data Theft, Loss & Breach
The loss or theft of data from a
business can potentially:
- Damage a brand or reputation
- Diminish consumer or customer
confidence
- Expose a business to state and
federal regulations that cover data protection and privacy
- Expose a business to significant
litigation risk
To protect your business in the
event a data breach causes loss or theft, your company should develop a data
breach response plan to be followed in the event of such loss or theft. Having
a response plan in place will make it easier to launch a rapid and coordinated
response to any loss or theft of data.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
offers guidance on the
steps to take once a breach has occurred, including the following measures
relating to securing operations, fixing
vulnerabilities, and notifying appropriate parties.
